Energy Efficiency in Anglesey

Anglesey County Council has been fairly active in the field of energy efficiency. This has been mostly in the form of partnership projects with other energy efficiency providers and Local authorities.  The Authority’s own energy efficiency program has been limited due to lack of funding to a package of measures on a group repair basis. These measures include double-glazing; loft Insulation, and cavity fill (where appropriate). Notably they do not include full central heating.

Anglesey Energy Services Company (ESCO) provides a one-stop shop for householders who wish to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.  The Energy Efficiency Advice Centre provides advice to householders on which improvement measures are recommended for their homes, and then the householders are referred to Arbed Ynni Mon (AYM).  AYM would provide quotations and arrange for all works to be completed, with the benefit of bulk purchase discount contracts and quality control. AYM would also provide assistance after the installation, for example boiler and gas fire annual servicing, breakdown repairs, chimney cleaning, gas safety checks, energy supply contracts, etc., all at discounted prices and with quality assurance.

One of the main reasons for creating AYM is to entice owner-occupiers to arrange all their home energy efficiency improvements through AYM, as at present it is extremely difficult to collect information on the work done by owner- occupiers for HECA purposes. Having most, if not all, of the home energy efficiency improvements arranged through AYM would provide useful information required for the planning of promotions and energy efficiency campaigns, and would enable a co-ordinated approach to be made to improve home energy efficiency in the area. AYM would provide information on all completed work, including that in the private sector, to the relevant HECA officers who would then be able to produce better HECA reports for the Welsh Assembly.
