Thames Energy
Ltd.
Background to the organisation
Thames Energy Ltd (Formerly
Waltham Forest Energy Services) was set up in 1988 to promote
the efficient production and use of energy. An integrated
consultancy and contracting firm, it offers wide ranging
engineering design and project management services for public
and private sector organisations. A particular feature of the
company’s operations is the partnering arrangements that it has
developed with a number of Government and public authorities,
banks and other funding support agencies. The company's
principal objective is to develop its activities in the
international power production sector by providing an
integration of design philosophies, which incorporate the use of
renewable energy and other energy efficiency technologies in its
design criteria. This includes the consideration of least cost
strategies for fuel procurement, technical design expertise and
energy management contracting.
The company ensures that the energy
infrastructure, primary resources, labour, and materials
consumed in power sector projects are
kept to a minimum, whilst still maintaining a sustainable supply
of electricity and heat. In this way useful energy will be
available at the lowest possible cost to its clients. The ethos
of the company's operation is 'affordable energy' for all. The
company has developed a reputation for producing innovative
solutions to the problems encountered by national and Local
Authorities in the area of engineering services and energy
management. It derives much of this approach from its key staff
who have served in various countries and industry sectors around
the world. Thames Energy Ltd employs qualified
professionals who have a lot of experience in project
management, training and delivering of energy management
services. There is also considerable experience within Thames
Energy Ltd of developing and managing national and international
funded programmes.
Engineering services design
continues to lead the company's activities as it allows and
encourages the innovative use of technology and ideas. The
design of new installations and project management requires high
calibre staff with wide ranging experience. The company
therefore employs highly qualified and experienced staff with
the design capability for all types of mechanical, electrical
power plant systems. The company uses up to date computer
systems, including AutoCAD and HevaCAD as efficient design aids.
Contract Energy Management is the
generic term for various contract arrangements for the purchase
of primary fuels, energy saving equipment and associated
services, which are financed in such a way that the client pays
for the improvements over a period of years out of the resulting
savings in energy costs. Energy management and tariff analyses
are the link between the more theoretical and practical
engineering aspect of energy efficiency works. In essence, the
company provides a vertically integrated service from the
initial feasibility studies through to the installation, project
management and operations. The plant installation, operations
and maintenance management refer to the longer term involvement
in the project. It also gives the company an overall capability
to provide a more comprehensive service that other engineering
consultancies cannot provide ensuring the company remains
associated with the success of its designed schemes.
